Nathaniel Law Liberator, of Carlisle, has been identified as the man shot dead by an area police officer, Trooper Frazer said in an updated release.
Carlisle Borough Police were called to a disturbance in the area of the 300 block of C Street at 1:59 p.m. on Jan. 13, Trooper Frazer explained.
When officers arrived and began to investigate, "an altercation took place between Officers and a suspect," as stated in the state police release. That's when an officer "discharged their firearm, striking the subject. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Nathaniel was out on $20,000 in bail ahead of his February trial for a Sept. 3, 2023, incident where he was left with two misdemeanors for simple assault, defiant trespass, and a summary charge for harassment - subject another to physical contact, court records detail.
He was a convicted felon for a robbery he committed with a group when he was 19 in 2009, his first criminal docket shows. He served approximately five years in prison after pleading guilty in 2010.
On May 9, 2020, he graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science degree, according to his Facebook.
His Facebook intro reads "In God We Trust" in multiple languages and "fallen angel talking the craziest shit and very loudly."
His final post of social was made just 25 minutes before he had his "altercation" with the police.
It reads in part "Mord" meaning murder in several languages, "the spirit comes for blood," and "ACAB" an acronym which means "all cops are b***tards."
Numerous friends of Nathaniel have said he was struggling with his mental health. In a GoFundMe campaign launched to help cover the funeral expenses, Dawn Kephart noted that he "had a very promising future ahead, once his mental health needs could be addressed. He would probably be alive and getting mental health treatment right now had the courts and doctors listened to his siblings as they begged for help. This past Monday, January 8th, being the most recent attempt to put him in the hospital on a 302 commitment."
Nathaniel is survived by his twin brother, two sisters, and mom, according to his father's obituary.
His funeral will be held by the same funeral home that organized his father's services, according to the GoFundMe.

Kephart added that:
“No matter how much family and friends encouraged him to seek help or to follow through with a recent court ordered mental health evaluation, he refused to seek treatment due to the stigma of being labeled 'crazy'.”
